This classic fall '99 show from Corporate-Bank-Du-Jour Spectrum has been a highly requested remaster, so I gave it by best.
Typical for an arena-taped Nuemann u89 AUD, this one was bass-heavy and missing alot of clarity in the higher frequencies. The usual EQ tweaks remedied that situation as best as I could. One of the things I like best about this show is that the crowd is going NUTS. Very high energy Philly crowd. Just check out the 4:15-4:30 section in Weekapaug (one of three distinct peaks in that jam)...then again around 6:10.
This is a classic OTS (official tapers' section) arena pull - not much distracting nearby chatter at all, but a louder crowd eruption to music ratio, since the tapers are much further from the stage than a FOB (front of soundboard). At times the crowd swells can overpower the music...which you may or may not like. I've noticed that the OTS pulls from 2009 have much less noticeable crowd explosions because since new sound man Garry Brown mixes the band soooo much louder than Paul did, it can sound like the crowd is less into it - simply because they are harder to hear because of the louder music. I think I prefer Garry's approach at the show because you want it loud when you're knee-deep in the shit, but I think the AUDs from Paul's days play back better on tape. Just my 2 cents.
