Understandably a highly-requested remaster, this beast of a show capped off an epic week in Phishtory. Many readers noted that there doesn't seem to be a great source of this show available, and I will concur with that sentiment. Not sure if it's the acoustics of the venue, the possibly distant placement of the tapers' section, or the fact that Paul was mixing them lower back in those days, but this AKG 460b pull has a far-off, echo-y sound to it.
While the source didn't have a lot of thump in Fishman's kick drum, one solid bonus was the fact that Mike's bass has a nice clear pick attack going on. His notes cut through the arena, keeping their distinct shape intact - which is not always the case in the larger rooms. The echo-y quality is not one I can really do anything to fix, but now that the overall mix is clearer thanks to an EQ boost of the high frequencies I hope you'll find it an upgrade. Finally, the original source was biased a bit to the left (totally perplexed as to why that's such a recurring theme with AUDs), so I applied stereo rebalancing to bring it closer to center.
If you want to get a quick sample of the remaster's sound quality, I'd suggest starting w/ Black-Eyed Katy and cranking that sucker up! Enjoy!

I like these remasters way better than sds! Awesome stuff, maybe a Philly 96 or 97 soon? Keep it up, wow
you're too modest - i think this reemer sounds great. can't wait to see what you can do with 12/11/99 or 9/17/00... keep 'em flowing. cheers.
thanks Lincoln - 12.11.99 will be OK...have struggled a bit with it but it should still be an upgrade IMO.
Now 9.17.00 I am REALLY psyched to unleash on people. That is turning into perhaps my favorite sounding remaster yet. I used the FOB B&K source, which is really bass heavy and in your face. After messing w/ the EQ I am LOVING how it sounds.
Stay tuned...
Black-Eyed Katy from this show is one of my all time favorite jams... and not it sounds EVEN BETTER!!! Thanks for taking the time to do these! All the phans appreciate it.
I cannot wait to hear 9-17-00. The Theme>Dog log is sooo goood. Also the Curtain With in the first set was a nice treat. Very good job on 11-23-97. it sounds great.
Having trouble pulling the first FLAC file - MU keeps saying that the file isn't available. Can you look into it? Danke.
Sounds like a typical MU bug people have mentioned before - try to close out and go back in to the MU site to try again...should eventually work. I know it's not the file itself because many have been sucessully downloaded. Megaupload needs some work IMO, sorry for the hassle!
Thanks, Kenny P. I've tried it on different browsers and still can't pull it. Any chance you can look to see if you are able to access the file. Maybe a temporary MU problem, but I am jonesin' to hear this!!
You're fucking out, I'm fucking in!
weird, it's giving me the same message...
let me look into this, sorry about that! and LOL at the KP quote.
Thanks! Could be something temporary w/ MU, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my end.
OK, I just replaced the original FLAC pt.1 link with a new one...just tested it and it appears to be working.
the aac file shows as not available?
(and thanks for sharing these remasters)!
that's weird, i just checked and it worked for me...
that issue happened on one of the FLACs for that show, which i then replaced w/ a different link, but i'm not sure why the AAC won't work for you.
i'll keep monitoring the sitch...
thank you very much. i haven't heard any of these sets and am very grateful for the work you have put in to your blog.
