Remaster request page

I've been starting to get some requests, so I figured I would simplify the process by adding a request page. Just click on the "comment" tab at the bottom of this post and leave your request there. You can technically request auds of shows that have been released in SBD by LivePhish, but I will be prioritizing those pretty low. If you want a specific source remastered, please give me the etree shnid number (or source lineage and I'll figure it out).

I won't be able to satisfy all requests of course, but I'll look for multiple requests to help decide. Only limiting factor is whether I have a lossless copy of the show (I have probably 80% of all shows). If the only source I have of a particular show is in rough quality, I will do what I can to improve it and will give a little disclaimer that it might not be quite up to snuff compared w/ the other remasters of my choosing.

For reference, you can reach this page quickly in the future by clicking on the "request page" tab in the upper right-hand column of the home page. Thanks!

p.s. - I'm sure to the dismay of the '99 haters and those hoping for a little more variety in terms of years, I will be shortly uploading a couple remaster requests I've gotten recently: 9.22.99 Las Cruces and 9.29.99 Memphis. I swear, after those I will take a break from '99 as well as a brief hold on the "Roof-less Shed Series" and post a show from each of the following years: '97, '96, '95, and so on going backwards. So you might have the quickest luck with requests from those years, hint hint...

Hi - really been digging the remasters you've been doing. I've got a couple in mind that are great shows that seem to be lacking a great recording... 12/11/99, 11/7/96, 9/17/00, 11/12/94, 6/17/94... I'm sure I can think of a few more but that's plenty to throw at you for now. Good luck wading through all the request and keep up the good work! Cheers.

First off let me just say thanks for remastering Tucson 99. You're right it was so awesome to be at such a random and remote show. For my request(s) I'm going to throw out a handful of shows. Much thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to this awesome thing we call PHiSH Oh and forgive me if these have already been remastered by someone else on PT, I haven't kept up with ALL of the remasters...

Ventura 97 & 98
Desert Sky 97 (my phirst)
6/30/00
7/10/00
10/6/00
Great Woods 99
Oswego
PNC 99
12/28/30/98
Gorge 98
Shoreline 98 & 97 ok I guess thats enough...

i know you're almost done with 99... but shoreline 99 is another to consider... phil and warren sickness

I know you have done many 99's but please consider 9-11-99, second set wolfmans>sand is one of the best things ever played by the boys. Good to here you doing the 9-29-99!!!

Anonymous said...

12/28/98 for sure.

I'd love to have a nice sounding copy of 11/23/97. Best show I've seen and there is no really good sounding source for it. I'm happy to provide flacs if needed.

Anonymous said...

And maybe 9/14/00

6/28/00 PLEASE!

11/19/97 is a must just based on the 2001>Wolfmans>Jam>Makisupa.

re: 12/28/98

a remaster already exists: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RCQG9YQG. I can't speak to the quality as I've never heard it. I briefly tried messing around with that show the other day but it might not be a good one to remaster. There's something hard to describe about the recording that I was having a tough time "fixing". We'll see though.

Lincoln - I like the variety of your requests. 11/7/96 and 9/17/00 are almost definites. 11/12/94 is another one like 12/28/98 - I tried but wasn't happy with the result. It has that boomy, gymnasium sound to it and I'm afraid that's really difficult to improve upon.

2nd to 11/23/97, really really want an upgrade to that one.

Hey buddy.. Great Job so far! Diggin it! Would really love to here a 02-26-1997 Longhorn, Stuttgart, Germany (remaster). Check it out. Super funky tube!

Kenny Powers said...

02-26-1997 is a really good sounding AUD already! unless maybe you have a different recording? I have the Neumann km140 pull, etree source # 3171. Sounds fantastic!

I try not to remaster sources that I already think are great. If you have a lesser quality source for that show I'd be happy to upload the one I have.

Okay, first off THANK YOU! These are great (at least to my ears).

Second, wondering if you've ever considered using Mediafire instead of Megaupload?

I like it because (a) it doesn't make you wait 45 seconds and (b) you can download multiple shows at once.

Not sure what the downsides are, if any, but just something for consideration.

Keep up the great work.

Kenny Powers said...

Todd

Thanks for the kind words.

As for Mediafire I'm always open to trying something different, but is it true they limit files to 200 MB? That could be annoying, especially for the FLACs which can break the 1 GB mark. Also, would I be able to track how many times each file has been downloaded? That's a must for me.

Basically whatever works best for folks is cool with me, as long as it can do the same basic thing I've been doing. Maybe I'll give it a try with the next remaster.

Charlie said...

Yeah, its a 200 MB limit for mediafire unless you subscribe, which I think is like $7 a month. You are able to track how many people have downloaded each show so that works out well for you. If it were me and I were considering using mediafire I'd only use it for the MP3's. Breaking FLAC versions into 5 parts or something seems like a lot of work on your end, and all the work is on your end. Thanks again

Alex said...

First of all thanks for all your work on these remasters. I would also like to request 12/2/94 and 12/3/94. These are both fun shows and both have the cosmic country horns sitting in for the 2nd set. Also if you ever get a chance to do the Big Cypress soundcheck that would be great too.

Anonymous said...

These remasters are ridiculous! Thanks so much for sharing!

I've been looking for a better copy of 9/22/00 for the past 9+ years... still my favorite concert of all time and probably the worst sounding aud I've ever listened to. A remastered copy of this show would be a dream come true.

Helping Friendly said...

KP, Want to say thanks for the response on my request on 02-26-97, and i agree, i used to have a dank copy of that show which must be the etree source 3171 but unfortunately no ones seeded it for awhile. You mentioned an upload on that which would be very kind cause i'm really missing that show. I'll keep checking back. Thanks dude

Kenny Powers said...

here's a FLAC copy of 2.26.97. Note to others - this is not a remaster, but is a rediculously clear and in-your-face aud.

Is it ok for me to post that link other places? Such a good show, I was unaware that people couldn't get the sweet sounding version.

Kenny Powers said...

most definitely OK to post that link anywhere!

Kenny Powers said...

To the person that requested 9/22/00 above - I wish I could make your dream come true...unfortunately the only AUD i have of that show sounds terrible, like beyond the point of saving via remaster.

I'm on the lookout for other sources, and will definitely do that show if the source can be salvaged.

I would be forever thankful if you could remaster 7-13-99. That first set is one of my all time favorites, and the second set is also very very solid. I know there are several other folks that would also love to see a cleaner copy available. If you are not familiar with the show check out this setlist!

Set 1: NICU, The Curtain, Halley's Comet -> Roses Are Free -> NO2!!!, Lawn Boy, Reba > Carini > Funky Bitch

Set 2: Wolfman's Brother > Piper, Bug, Mountains in the Mist, Run Like an Antelope > Possum
Encore: Tuesday's Gone

Notes: NO2 was played for the first time since July 16, 1994 (355 shows) and, for the first known time, included the instrumental ending originally included on The White Tape. Reba was unfinished and dissolved into Carini. Antelope included Meatstick teases and Trey acknowledging his friends Dave and Luann Abrahams, who were in the crowd. Scott Murawski joined the band on Possum and the Phish debut of Tuesday’s Gone.

I give you points for originality on the side-project request, but I'm gonna keep this a Phish-only blog...sorry!

I am now working on 11.19.97.

And because I've gotten a bunch of requests for 6/28, 29, and 30 I think I'm just gonna do the whole Holmdel > Hartford 2000 run as a single blog post. Just gotta make sure the sources I have for each show are remaster material...

here are a few more that I feel should be considered. sorry if they have been mentioned.

7-20-99, 7-6-00 unique shows in Toronto, and I have never heard a source do either of them justice.

7-29-98, just a perfect rippin 2nd set, muddy sources.

12-6-97, just because!

9-18-00 - 9/24/00 this is a great bunch of shows leading into the last leg.

I saw almost 40 shows between 1993 and 1997, and decided after last year to see them again this year for Phish 3.1. As a request, the last two shows I saw were 11/21/97 and 11/22/97 -- one of the highlights of all my concert going experiences for sure. I have 6 sources for each show, and I think the AKG461 sources are the best for each night. A remaster of those would be awesome!

Hey y'all

i just wanted to drop a line to mention a few of your requests that i've looked into but decided not to do because the existing AUDs are really good...i'll list the etree source #'s in case you just haven't heard any of these sources, which i could upload for you. refer to db.etree.org to figure out the taper info for each #:

1998-11-11 31242
1997-07-10 2669
1997-12-02 and 03 : i'm perplexed about the comment of there being no good sources for these shows. I have one source for 12/2/97 (7984) and it sounds really nice. I have two sources for 12/3/97 (8572 and 89656) which sound very different but are great in their own ways. One of them's a bit bass-heavy but still nice, and the other is just about perfect.

Fall '97 in general has, for some reason, better sounding AUDs IMO than most other late '90s/'00 AUDs.

ok that's it for now, just went through the comments up to April 5 at 11:09...

The remastering of 7-13-99 and 12-11-99 sounds awesome and thanks so much for doing this. I do have a request to make. Unfort. a lot of 99 AUDS sound like Sh*t.

I think it would benefit the community greatly to remaster

7-23-99 remember the Ghost -> Free > BoaF from this show and how the band was exchanging energy with the storm that night!?

last request

7-24-99

Thanks a lot for all you have done!

How about 7/21/98? What a second set, best Ghost out there IMO.

Kenny Powers said...

Also, for anyone wondering about 6/30/00 and the other Holmdel/Hartford shows I kept saying I would remaster...

another fellow who goes by "JetiMindTrick" recently beat me to the punch and remastered that whole 4-show run.

You can find them on PT as well as Demonoid...if folks check those out and decide they really don't like them, I could give them a shot but I typically try to avoid to doing remasters of shows people have already done.

Maybe my gut feeling that remastering most of those sources would result in an even worse-sounding AUD ended up being good predictions :(

Thanks for the requests, keep them coming, i haven't forgotten about you...but to be totally honest I'm trying to be a wee bit less obsessive with the blog for a while so I can catch up on the MOUNTAIN of shows i've been grabbing from various trackers.

Kenny- you got to help me out. im at my wits end. been trying to find a good, clear tape of 7.31.1997 Shoreline Amp. The whole show was sick, and of course, I happened to be there. the runaway jim but especially the page laden YEM jam must be heard. could you direct me to the best one in your estimation out there? , or consider it as a project?- I have slowly started to educate myself to the taper lexicon, and tell me how i might obtain it

Hey man. First of all, I definitely appreciate all the dope remasters you've done. I really dig the Boise '99, as well as the Champaign '97. Well done, bro!

I gotta ask one question though...where's the '95 dood? Such a great, great year (especially Fall -> New Years) I know that the entire month of December has been remastered on the spreadsheet, but I really dig alot of the Oct./Nov. shows just as much! Also, Ive noticed most AUD recordings Ive heard sound very cavernous.
I'd like to throw out a few different shows that I think would make good candidates:

10/7 - Amazing Hood
10/11 - Entire 2nd set is money!
10/29 - Solid all around playing.
11/30 - 2nd set Tweezer -> Makisupa -> Antelope is hot!

So those are my requests. Any of these shows would be fine by me. I just think you should "diversify" your catalog a little bit. Awesome job man. Keep up the good work!

Kenny Powers said...

Matt - thanks for the requests, and i agree - fall '95 is sick. I'll look into the ones you suggested. As for the "cavernous" comment, i agree with that and it's one of the main reason i haven't remastered more from that tour. There's not much you can fix about a boomy recording. A bassy recording that's otherwise good is an easy EQ fix, but that cavernous aspect of some AUDs can't really be undone. But I will look into it.

Kenny Powers said...

also - there is a great sounding AUD of the Louisville Gardens show 10/29/95. i've compared three differenct sources, and thw following sounds awesome and wouldn't be helped much by a remaster:

AKG 460b, shnid # 86812

JDUB said...

Kenny- I dont mean to press, but I would love to hear your rebaked rest of that show 7.31.97 the jim, vultures, ya mar and mcgrupp are masterful

whenever you get to it signed patiently waiting

Kenny Powers said...

patience, young Padawan.

you can't force open the petals of a flower. (what movie is that from? without Googling...)

nah, but seriously i'm just about done...i need to finish QC'ing the remaster for any glaring issues, then i need to upload the files and do the blog write-up. expect it by Friday night.

FYI i deleted most of our conversation above because this page is getting super long and i want to try to limit it to requests and quick replies instead of convos. i should've said to email me for the duration of our research. anyhoo.

cheers

Hey Kenny. Writing to request a remastered copy of 12/28/1997 US Air Arena. It was one of my first shows, and its a heater. I really love Trey's tone in late 97-holiday run 97, and it holds up on this show. The spreadsheet copy is average, but I feel with a little bit of tweaking it could sounds amazing. Thank you for all of your hard work.

John said...

First, thanks for all your work - these remasters are great. To second a request from above, 12/16/99 is a great show with an amazing sand and tweezer, and all the copies I have ever heard are close to unlistenable.

charlie said...

7/21/98, amazing show top to bottom, killer ghost that deserves to be in the best ever conversation.

Hey,
First off I want to say thank you for all your work and your site. Hearing these shows in this new quality is such a gift. My humble request is for 11/29/98 Worcester, MA, my first show. Obviously there is the official LP release of the 11/27 show, but to have a top notch version of 11/29 would be phenomenal. Cheers.

Anonymous said...

What an amazing effort. Thanks for all the hard work. I'll take a strong AUD over a SBD anyday, but that's me.

Two of my all-time favorites circulate in fairly poor quality. Any chance at getting remasters of 8/9/98 or 4/4/94?

The '98 Va Beach show is a bit surprising since you'd think the Terrapin encore would make it an obvious classic - but that show was sensational well before the encore. As for 4/4/94 - terribly underrated show feat. horns and the debut of several Hoist tunes. Thanks again!!

Kenny Powers said...

there's a pretty damn tasty remaster of 8/9/98 by phishjam10, which is on the spreadsheet in v0 mp3. i know he has the FLACs too but that page seems to be inactive now. the terrapin encore also circulates in pristine SBD as filler on the 8/8/98 SBD which is on etree.

4/4/94 set II is available in SBD, so naturally i wouldn't choose to remaster that.

good thoughts though, keep em comin! and to all who have posted requests, thank you and don't think i've ingnored them. i sample all the sources i have of requested shows, and if i don't remaster it it almost always means the sources i have are not remaster material. i'm always trying to track down more and more sources...

Love this site and what you do. I would love to see a remaster of
08-07-1998 Raleigh, NC show. my copy of the show is terrible in comparison to others.

Kenny Powers said...

since much of 8/7/98 has been leaked in SBD, i would probably not consider that. but yeah, damn good show!

Mike said...

How about 8.9.97? The Smoking first set and Mike's into Everything needs a good tweaking. Also Deer Creek 98 would be solid.

How about the OJ show too?

Mike said...

So to bring the loop theme in, how about a string.of the best loop shows in your memory. Kind of hard to pinpoint, but you know they are circa 99-2000. I cannot recall of 12.3.99 in Cindy was loop or just sonic waves heavy. Bit that would be a great show to get a polished copy of as well.

6.10.2000 has a mesmerizing Sand. I think someone else mentioned 9.11.99, and I think that had a really tripped out loop fest.

charlie said...

Where oh where might I find that leaked 8/7/98 show?

charlie said...

Also, my personal favorite of '99, 12/2 would be cool

In honor of this summer's Chicago run, how about an upgrade to the three nights of UIC in '98? Those 3 are sa sa sa smokin'!

Thanks a million for all of your work.

Aaron said...

Would you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remaster 9/29/00! I was was at those shows and IMO 9/29/00 and 9/30/00 were the last REAL Phish shows! 9/29/00 is just FULL of energy....as was the entire arena!

The only sources don't come close to doing 9/29 justice.

charlie said...

Saw the comment about those chicago '98 shows and broke out 11/11. Wow what a show, but it already sounds phenomenal. That got me thinking, have you come across any other shows while doing the remaster thing that you don't think need work or sound exceptionally good, like one of your remasters? If so could you post them here?

Kenny Powers said...

that's a good question. yes i do come across AUDs that i feel i really can't do much to improve, and that 11/11/98 Grand Rapids show is one of them. Actually, the thing with that AUD is that not only does it sound really good, it has a crisper than usual high end with controlled bass, which is a combination i believe the average listener prefers.

the "prototype" recordings i end up using are such that they have a nice beefy low end, perhaps too beefy, and the high end is a bit muffled and soft, making the subtleties hard to fully appreciate.

and lastly, the majority of AUDs i sample and contemplate for remasters end up not being done because they sound suboptimal in the kinds of ways that any EQ job or other remastering cannot save. this could be due to reasons like a really boomy room with bad acoustics, a poorly placed tapers' section or FOB stealth location, as well as myriad other possible reasons. i feel bad when people say "this or that AUD blows and really needs an upgrade", because most likely AUDs like that cannot be always be turned into better listening experience by "remastering" my way. you can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.

Kenny Powers said...

oh yeah, and to respond to your request - perhaps i will have a separate thread/page where i can post source numbers that i feel are really high quality and not in much if any need of an EQ or left-right channel adjustment, or level-raising.

I've always loved 12/7/99 Portland, ME. I would love to hear you work your magic on it (or 12/8 for that matter). Thanks.

I am combing through alot of the remasters, and 95 has a good December representation. But how about the sublime 11.30.95 show?

That show is butter!

Gumbo72203 said...

Oh man, thank you so much dude!!! I can't believe theres remasters of 12/11/99, 12/31/98, and Cypress. I can't wait to check those out, the auds I've always had were clear but always had a really boomy unpleasant bass response.

Theres 2 shows that immediately come to mind that I think deserve your touch... 11/11/98 and 12/16/99. The main problem is that when I CRANK the volume for the legendary 11/11/98 Ghost and 12/16/99 Tweezer, the bass response overwhelms the rest of the band and hinders the magic.

I must also throw out 12/7/99 for that Halley's....

but oh man, now that I know theres a possibly perfect sounding 12/31/99 TWIST jam, AHHH!!! Those 2 notes Mike plays in the jam.... absolute glorious purity.

Kenny Powers said...

don't get your hopes up for the 12/31/98 remaster....one of my earliest efforts and i chose a pretty boomy and chatty source. but hopefully an improvement nonetheless. i'm pretty happy w/ those other two :)

as far as 11/11/98, as i told another person who requested it, that is one of the best sounding AUDs from that tour that i've heard, and i don't really see how i can improve it much. i'll try to look into the other two you mentioned.

i haven't been doing remasters lately for a couple reasons, so i may be slow to react. but thanks for the interest.

Best It's Ice Ever! I have never heard them before, or since, jam it out like they did that night.

Have a listen to just the middle jam part...stars out a little mellow, catches a groove....

Split Open to poen second set is also stellar.

Hey man, just wanted to say that I love your site. The 07/31/97 remaster is one of my favorite Phish recordings I've ever heard. There are honestly two shows that I will absolutely beg you to remaster the AUD's from. 11/12/94 and 06/11/94. I know people will laugh me out of the building for recommending 06/11/94, but I just think the FM SBD is really harsh and just... not good sounding. The AUD is boomy, but I feel like with some touch you could make it an epic recording like your 07/31/97. It's my favorite Phish show. PLEASE HELP!

Jesse - link is here said...

Thanks for your work. I am getting "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable" at megaupload for part 2 of your leaked SBDs project.

Anonymous said...

Love the job you are doing with these remasters. How about a remaster of 11.19.96 Kansas City??

Such a great show!

Anonymous said...

So, your leaked SBD project is fantastic. Question, though -- why didn't you include all of the "From the Archives" shows? I know that Superball, at least, is not represented, and it looks like others are missing as well....

Kenny Powers said...

The Superball FTA is included in the Tier 2 compilation. Please see the main blog post for the SBD project for details as to why some FTAs are not in either project (long story short, some are just too shitty sounding).

Thx for your interest!

Hey Kenny, thanks for all these remasters. A few of them are always in my rotation. The 9/17/00 remaster is the best sounding aud I've ever heard!

7/25/99 needs your magic touch! That whole show from start to finish is A+. Hook it up!

Anonymous said...

Hey man, I love your 1999 remasters. That year never gets enough love. Is 09/14/99 not one of the best shows of all time? I was wondering if you would not mind remastering 11/12/94. It is considered by many, including myself, to be the peak show of a peak month in Phish's history that never gets enough love. Yeah, there are those crappy SBD's Phish has sparingly released, but it really needs your touch for the whole show. If not that show, how about 11/23/94, another great show from that year. 08/14/97 is another classic in need of some help. Honestly, a 06/11/94 AUD remaster would be great as well. Thanks for the shows man!

Kenny Powers said...

as far as 11/12/94, i've already looked into remastering the only AUD source available but I really couldn't do it any justice. it has that boomy college gym sound, and no amount of tweaking improved it IMO. we'll just have to hope Shapiro unleashes the whole show someday.

I'll look into those others, although 8/14/97 has already been remastered by phishjam10 (it's on the Spreadsheet)

Anonymous said...

I arrived here for the 12/11/99 show...in person, one of the best shows ever, phish or otherwise....sending out a request for 7/9/97 ...esp the Bela Fleck segment!!! peace - JP in Boston

Anonymous said...

I know you said you were taking a break from 99, but would love to hear a remaster of 7/25/99. It needs your magic touch!

RandomReader said...

Summer 95 perhaps? There's a lot of crazy stuff in there, and few sources (that I've heard) that couldn't use some tweaking. Mike, especially, is lacking in a lot of material from that tour. Anything you can do to gimme more Mike, will make me a happy camper.

Looking forward to more of your 99 remasters you have done on demonoid. Tucson AZ in particular. Also...

First off, thanks so much, love these remasters. My request, if possible, would be Lyon '97, and a re-posting of BIG CYPRESS, Lemonwheel, and 9/14/99. I've got the AUD of that Boise show, but man would I love to listen to that Bag in better quality. Thanks again!

pdscjr said...

I'd like to second the request for a repost of Big Cypress. That was one of the finest remasters I've ever heard and I lost my copy :/

Anonymous said...

Can you repost the Leaked SBD links not in megaupload format

Kenny Powers said...

I posted the Leaked SBD project on Demonoid only because not only would that require a ton of separate files if I used a typical file sharing service (it's almost 3 GB, but the FBI keeps shutting sites down or limited their services. Just not worth the time and effort for me.

If you don't do Demonoid I'm sure you could ask around or post somewhere asking for split folders...hope that helps.

Would love to see a remaster of 12/9/97 State College...I know there are not alot of good tapes for this show but it would be awesome to hear an updated version. It will forever live in the shadow of 12/7 but has an incredible simple and great mike's opener...thanks for all the hard work

cheers

Also I'm biased first show.

Would gladly toss you the newly sync'd vid with your remastered audio.
