Coming soon: The Roof-less Shed Series

This upcoming series of remasters was inspired by none other than Mr. Miner from PhishThoughts.com. His post yesterday theorized which sheds the band could and should play this summer. He made mention of something I have noticed too, namely that the (relatively scarce) outdoor venues that have no roof covering the front part of the crowd (and tapers) allow for that big, open sound untainted by the echo-like reverb and loss in clarity you can get from the usual overhangs. That's not to say the sound isn't awesome at many an amphitheater, it's just different. I also feel like doing this project because it's making me think of warmer summer days...a nice escape from the bleak reality of winter in New England.

I will present remasters, one by one (or perhaps venue by venue) from venues such as the following:

Coors Amphitheater, Chula Vista CA
Sandstone Amphitheater, Bonner Springs KS
Portland Meadows, Portland OR
Pima County Fairgrounds, Tuczon AZ
Ventura County Fairgrounds, Ventura CA

and possibly others. Of course, these aren't all sheds per se; some are just fields with a stage at one end (Pima). The point being an outdoor gig with no roof over the crowd.

I hope to have the first one up next Tuesday (my day off during the week).

This sounds great! Will we be able to get the FLAC's too instead of just mp3s?

Yes, all of my remasters are available in FLAC, mp3 (v0 bitrate, using LAME encoder), and AAC (using either the QuickTime or Nero encoder).

Ventura CA- hopefully 7-20-98??

I realized after the fact that i don't have a lossless copy of 7.20.98. If I can get ahold of that, I will absolutely be doing both Ventura shows.

So does this mean we will get Gorge remasters down the road as well?!?!

Would LOVE to add this top notch venue to that list.

Not out of the question, but I'm leaning towards no for a couple reasons: I want to do remasters for every show ever played at each venue. While the 4 played at Sandstone is a tall order in one post, it's doable.

But they've played 10 shows at The Gorge...that's a major project! Also, due to the location of the venue there's often wind (e.g. phasing) issues on the AUDs, which cannot be corrected via remaster. At least I don't know how that could be done.

Sooo...I won't kill the idea altogether but I wouldn't hold your breath. I will definitely look into remastering select Gorge shows, just not all of them as part of the Shed Series.

Oh, and: if anyone has a lossless copy of 7.20.98 Ventura, send it my way!
